There comes a time

This blog doesn’t concern the family issues that we discussed in class, because to tell you the honest truth none of that interested me to the extent that i could actually write a blog about it. So, I’m going to write about something that has actually been on my mind a lot lately.

There comes a time in everyone’s life when you have to put your foot down and say enough is enough. I’m tired of living the life that I live, and I want to change it. People need to realize that they control their own lives and no one else can make anything happen for you, but yourself. When you sit there and complain about your everyday life, and how nothing goes right, then get off your ass and make something of yourself. I’m sick and tired of hearing people complain about things that they can fix. FIX IT. Nothing in life is free, happiness isn’t free, love isn’t free, nothing is free. Our world runs on money, our lives run on money. Those people that sit there and say I’d rather be happy and poor than rich and miserable, have never been poor, and live in a world not known as reality. Have you ever tired to be poor and happy? It’s impossible because you worry yourself sick with how your going to feed your family, how your going to pay the bills, why you drive a car that’s so old it was new when your grandparents were teenagers. Please tell me all those people on welfare are just happy go lucky and love life. It’s not reality. So that’s when I say enough is enough. That when that time comes in your life to make something of yourself, then do it. Don’t sit around and say well I should of done this, and if I would of done this my life would have been so much better. Live life with no regrets, take risk, and quit settling for something less than what you deserve. There comes a time when enough is enough, and I’ve had enough.

Our Right To Reproduce

I believe just because we have the right equipment to make babies, does not mean that we have to do so. I believe it’s a woman’s choice whether, or not she decides to have children. Myself, for example, has no interest what so ever in having children, I actually would willingly give my eggs to those who can’t have babies. Yes I do want children, I am definitely not having them. It goes along with the whole gender roles that society has created. Women have children, Men are put on this earth to procreate. Ridiculous. It’s our choice as not only humans, but as women, whether or not we decide we want children, it should not be a requirement.

“Reproductive choice involves being able to have safe and affordable birthing and parenting options; reliable, safe, and affordable birth control technologies; freedom from forced sterilization; and the availability of abortion.”p. 313
This brings a whole new argument to the table, and also a highly political issue. Abortion is the removal of a fetus before the 2nd trimester. It’s about choice, it’s a woman’s choice whether or not she decides that she wants to have a child. If they mother is 24 with 6 kids and living on welfare and finds that she is yet again pregnant, then she may find that it’s improbable to bring that child into the world, when she knows that she can’t take care of it. It’s like Elvis’ song, “In the Getto.”

As the snow flies
On a cold and gray chicago mornin
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries
cause if theres one thing that she dont need
Its another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto

People, dont you understand
The child needs a helping hand
Or hell grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me,
Are we too blind to see,
Do we simply turn our heads
And look the other way

Well the world turns
And a hungry little boy with a runny nose
Plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto

And his hunger burns
So he starts to roam the streets at night
And he learns how to steal
And he learns how to fight
In the ghetto

Then one night in desperation
A young man breaks away
He buys a gun, steals a car,
Tries to run, but he dont get far
And his mama cries

As a crowd gathers round an angry young man
Face down on the street with a gun in his hand
In the ghetto

As her young man dies,
On a cold and gray chicago mornin,
Another little baby child is born
In the ghetto

This song depicts what it’s like for a child to grow up in uncertain and unpleasing conditions. Now you have to look, and see if it’s worth ending the child’s life before it is born into the world, or if we should just let nature take its course. Another argument then arises. When is a fetus considered to be alive? Is it at conception, or is it when the child takes it’s first breath of fresh air? All these questions are what raises the issue in politics today, because so many people disagree on so many varieties of the issue. There is no black and white on this issue, there is just one long shade of gray. The only thing I know I agree with is our right to choose. It is our right to choose whether or not to reproduce, it is not a necessity

Advertising…friend or foe?

victoria secret

Beautiful women…thats exactly what this advertisment is about. It’s a Victoria Secret’s ad showing off these beautiful women, and the bras they are wearing. After watching the video on weds. I started to look hard into all the advertisments that are in my magazines and on the billboards, and I came to the same exact conclusion that I stated in class. Are we trying to find something to argue about? Honestly when I look at the ads yes of course I look at the beautiful women, but I also look at what they are selling. SEX SELLS. I want everyone to completely honest with me, would you buy a thong thats advertised on a obese woman? No. Your going to sit there and be like damn that girl shouldn’t be wearing that. Now if its on a beautiful woman who’s body look like it hasn’t eaten a package of donuts a day, then your going to see what the ad is selling on the beautiful woman, not whats hidden by the fat woman. I know there is the arguement that these ads are meant to show how women are “supposed to look” thats not entirely true. Yes of course there are beauty products trying to be sold, but its not like they are all telling you that your ugly and you must wear make-up to be pretty, all they are simply trying to do is sell a product. I’m a waitress and I basically am a salesman, or saleswoman, for those who want to get technical. When a customer sits at one of my tables they expect me to sell them food, and my job is to upsell everyone. Upselling is when they want one thing and I try to add on to it, or upgrade everything that they buy. It’s not like I’m telling everyone they must get drunker of better liquor, or that you need a huge steak to show off your wallet size. I just sell what I’m told to sell, and thats what advertising is all about. The big tycoons are just trying to add more money to their pockets, not make all these women try to be like the models. Its even proven that not all men or women want the really skinny anorexic looking girls, we want the athletic taken care of women. So please stop bitching about all the men trying to make all women fit this 10% of humanity’s image. They are selling a product and making a living. SEX SELLS its the truth whether you want to admit it or not.

I’m a Woman and I do it Better

Sitting in class we discussed the gender roles in society and how men dominate the sports world, and in the real world. I am an athlete and have accomplished many things in the sports world. I hold the record at my High School for the highest batting adverage in a season, and I also have many presitigious awards. I recieved a scholarship to play softball in college, and we won conference, set a national record, and broke many records at my University. How dare society sit here and tell me that men can do not only what I do, but do it better? I would love to see men do half of the things women do. Lets see a man bleed for a week and still be living…How about from now on men have to bare the children, stay at home and cook dinner, take susie to dance, and bobby to football practice, while still holding a successful career. I doubt it. Men can’t even begin to compare themseleves to women. Another point is that men basically have things given to them. Being born as a white male your life is given to you on a silver spoon, and it has been this way since history has began. Think of all the hardships that women have had to go to just in order to vote, in order to be taken seriously in the work force, and to break the traditional “stay at home mom” persona. Now a woman is leading in the democratic race for the canadicy for President, Oprah, a woman, is one of the richest people in the world, some countries even have women running them. My main point of this is that society as a whole needs to reevaluate what gender roles are. Women have broken the seal of the “stay at home wife and mother” and have started to become providers. It time that America and the rest of the World recognizes that. I’m a woman and I do it better.

Can you be gay and still be considered religious?

This post is not meant to offend anyone or to be struck down by the heavens, but I think the question of wiether or not you can be homosexual and religious needs to be clearified. Do I believe in God? Yes. Am I a lesbian? Yes. OK so where do you go from here? Most strick Christans would argue with me and tell me that me being gay and christan is like being a liberalist and loving George W. Bush. Unlikely am I correct? Well its true. My arguement is that God makes you who you are, he gives you the ability to fall in love, and controls who you fall in love with. Destiny and fate are things out of one’s control. The big man upstairs controls your fate and your destiny.  Therefore how can you tell me that someone chooses to be gay, the choice is already made for them. When your born you have this predetermined path layed out in front of you, and there are things that your supposed to accomplish in life; who says you can’t accomplish things while being gay, or that in order to be in love it has to be with someone of the opposite sex? The question of love shouldn’t depend on weither they are heterosexual or homosexual. Real love is real love….the kind you cant forget, when two people share the same soul and want to spend the rest of their lives making each other happy. Why should the government or the church, or anyone for that matter control who you do that with? They shouldn’t, gays and lesbians are people too, and deserve the right to love, and be left alone.

Dear Mr. President

PINK LYRICS

“Dear Mr. President”
(feat. Indigo Girls)

Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let’s pretend we’re just two people and
You’re not better than me.
I’d like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?

Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We’re not dumb and we’re not blind.
They’re all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.

What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?

Let me tell you ’bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you ’bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you ’bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you ’bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don’t know nothing ’bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You’d never take a walk with me.
Would you?

I absolutly love this song because Pink asks the questions that the rest of the country doesn’t want to ask. She’s a feminist in the idea that she cares about the rights of others and of the rest of the country. I consider myself to be a feminist, I care deeply about human rights and the well being of the country. The song talks about the war in Iraq, the homeless, gay rights, and how blind President Bush thinks the rest of us are. Our Government thinks that they can get away with what ever they want, and us as citizens are just supposed to sit there and pretend like nothing is happening. We all have voices, we all have opinions, and as women our thoughts and opinions are never heard, therefore Pink being a public figure, and a woman, she gains the attention of millions and finally talks about something political and important. Women in power is a dangerous thing, because of the simple fact we can get things done and don’t quit.  I think that’s why people don’t think America is ready for a woman president. America isn’t ready for change, America isn’t ready for things to be accomplished. Men have this strange idea that once a month women turn into raging bitches and if a woman were President we’d bomb a different country every month. This is stereotypical and absurd, and if a woman’s menstrual cycle is the only reason why the citizens of the U.S won’t elect a smart and accomplished woman, then I’m moving to England; at least England is ruled by a Queen, and the people of England aren’t chauvinistic pigs that are afraid that women might actually have brains.
